KASABONIKA LAKE, ON – A 27-year-old man from Kasabonika Lake First Nation is facing multiple charges after police responded to a violent incident involving a firearm on Friday evening.

Officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS), based out of the Kasabonika Lake detachment, were called to a residence on May 2 following reports of an assault in progress where a firearm—believed to be a shotgun—was involved.

By the time police arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene. No gunshots were fired, and the individuals at the residence did not sustain serious injuries. Investigators determined that the altercation escalated when the accused allegedly retrieved a firearm before fleeing after learning police had been contacted.

The male suspect later returned to the residence, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

  • Assault with a Weapon (×2)

  • Careless Use of a Firearm

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

ANDERSON appeared in bail court on Saturday, May 3, and was remanded into custody with a future court date pending.

This incident remains under investigation by NAPS.
