KENORA – WEATHER UPDATE – The Lake of the Woods region is ringing in Victoria Day morning with a wintry surprise—a frost advisory has been issued for Kenora, Grassy Narrows, and Whitedog, and if you’ve already started your spring planting, you’ll want to check on your garden.

As of 5:00 AM CDT at Kenora Airport, the temperature is a brisk 0.3°C under mainly clear skies. The dew point is -1.3°C, and with humidity at 89%, it’s cold enough to see frost forming on rooftops, windshields, and unprotected plants. Winds are from the east at 10 km/h, and visibility is excellent at 32 km. The barometric pressure is 102.6 kPa and rising, signalling a calm and sunny day ahead.

Today’s Forecast:

Expect sunny skies throughout the day, with temperatures gradually climbing to a pleasant high of 15°C. Winds will increase slightly, becoming easterly at 20 km/h by midday. Don’t forget the sunscreen—the UV index is 7, which is considered high.

Tonight and the Week Ahead:

Skies remain mostly clear tonight, with a low of +5°C, which thankfully won’t require any more frost advisories.
On Tuesday, look forward to a mix of sun and cloud and a daytime high of 17°C, with continued light east winds.
Wednesday brings even better news for outdoor plans: sunny skies and a high of 21°C—perfect for post-holiday barbecues and back-to-work commutes.

Frost Advisory Reminder:

Frost advisories are issued during the growing season when temperatures dip near the freezing mark and can cause damage to tender vegetation. If you haven’t already, it’s best to cover plants, especially in low-lying or shaded areas that are more prone to frost accumulation.

What to Wear:

Start the morning with a warm jacket or fleece—gloves wouldn’t be dramatic today. By afternoon, you’ll be fine with a light jacket or long sleeves. And with sunshine dominating the day, sunglasses and sunscreen are key accessories.

Historic Weather Note:

Kenora’s record low for May 19 is a frosty -4.0°C, and while we didn’t get quite that cold, this morning’s chill is certainly on-brand for Northwestern Ontario’s moody springtime. On the flip side, the record high was a toasty 29.8°C back in 1964!
