THUNDER BAY, ON – The Thunder Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively investigating a series of mischief-related incidents at the Silver Harbour Conservation Area, as the popular waterfront location has increasingly become an unauthorized party spot.
Throughout May, OPP officers received multiple reports of vandalism, including the removal of safety signage in the designated diving area. Conservation staff also reported excessive litter, including discarded alcohol containers, and the presence of unauthorized fire pits, all of which pose serious environmental and safety hazards.
“This is a public space meant for everyone’s enjoyment and safety,” said a spokesperson for the OPP. “Vandalism, littering, and dangerous behaviour are not only illegal—they diminish the experience for the entire community.”
OPP Requesting Public Assistance
Police are actively monitoring the area, but are also calling on the community to help identify those responsible. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment directly at 807-939-2133, or via the OPP’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can be shared with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
Protecting Our Green Spaces
The OPP reminds the public that preserving natural areas like Silver Harbour requires the cooperation of all visitors. Residents are urged to report any suspicious or illegal activity and to follow all conservation area guidelines.
