OPP URGES IMPAIRED DRIVING TO BE TREATED LIKE THE SERIOUS CRIME IT IS

DRYDEN, ON — May 25, 2025 – The Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three drivers with Dangerous Operation under the Criminal Code section 320.13(1) following separate high-risk incidents on Highway 17 involving reckless passing maneuvers.

The charges stem from multiple dangerous overtaking attempts—including passes at hill crests and around blind corners—that put other motorists in direct danger, forcing evasive actions and narrowly avoiding serious collisions.

Two Commercial Truckers and One Passenger Driver Charged

The OPP confirmed that two of the three drivers charged were behind the wheel of commercial motor vehicles at the time of the offenses:

  • Ajayveer Singh, 20, of Winnipeg, Manitoba

  • Bonaventure Wineza, 57, of Edmonton, Alberta

The third driver, Ashish Kumar, 26, also of Winnipeg, was operating a passenger vehicle during the incident.

All three individuals were arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation, then released pending future court appearances.

OPP Reinforces Road Safety Messaging

The OPP reminds the public that road safety is a shared responsibility, particularly along Highway 17, a key trans-Canada route through Northwestern Ontario known for its winding terrain and frequent commercial traffic.

“These kinds of decisions—risky passes and aggressive maneuvers—can cost lives,” said a Dryden OPP spokesperson. “We urge all drivers to be patient and follow the rules of the road.”

Residents are encouraged to report dangerous driving immediately by calling 911. Timely reports can help prevent crashes and support enforcement efforts.
