Thunder Bay Border Cats head home for big week at Port Arthur Stadium
THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – It was a nail-biter in Wisconsin as the Thunder Bay Border Cats wrapped up their four-game road swing with a tough 2-1 loss to the La Crosse Loggers on Sunday night.
The Cats brought the claws late, getting the potential tying run to third base in each of the final three frames—but the Loggers’ bullpen slammed the door, stranding runners in the seventh, eighth, and ninth to preserve the one-run edge.
The game’s difference-maker? A two-run blast off the bat of La Crosse’s Eli Small in the bottom of the fourth inning—his shot proved to be all the offence the home side would need.
Thunder Bay struck first in the opening frame, as Jeremy Sheffield (Georgetown University) plated a run with a timely RBI, giving the Cats an early 1-0 lead.
On the mound, John McDonald (Creighton University) kept things clean in his three innings of work, fanning three and keeping the Loggers off the board. Later, Cameron Johnson (Rutgers University) came in firing from the pen, tossing two hitless innings, striking out a pair, and walking just one.
The Cats now turn their eyes to home turf as they return to Port Arthur Stadium Monday night to host the Eau Claire Express in a short two-game series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. in what promises to be a competitive clash.
Makaio Cisneros (Pensacola State College) will get the start for Thunder Bay. The right-hander has been sharp early in the season, logging 8 strikeouts over 8 innings with a stingy 1.13 ERA in his first two starts.
The Border Cats return to Port Arthur Stadium on Monday, hosting the Eau Claire Express for the first of two games before the St. Cloud Rox visit Thunder Bay later in the week. First pitch of that game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
Thunder Bay’s Makaio Cisernos (Pensacola State College) is the expected starting pitcher. Cisneros has made two starts on the season, with 8 strikeouts in 8 innings and a 1.13 earned run average.
Don’t miss a pitch—Thunder Bay’s boys of summer are back on home soil and ready to roar.
