Thunder Bay – Sports – What a night at Port Arthur Stadium! The Thunder Bay Border Cats put on an absolute show for the fans and their furry friends on “Bark in the Park” night, dominating the Waterloo Bucks with a decisive 9-4 victory on Thursday!
The Border Cats wasted no time asserting their authority, drawing first blood with a powerful three-run outburst in the very first inning. From that moment on, they never looked back, holding onto that lead and ultimately securing the win.
Greg LaChance from the University of Illinois continued his incredible run, extending his hitting streak to a sizzling 11 games with an RBI double in that pivotal first inning. And talk about clutch, Jordan Bach out of Southern Illinois University delivered a crucial run-scoring hit in the same frame. Bach was truly spectacular, earning the Cwench player of the game honours, going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and a pair of stolen bases.
The offence wasn’t done there! Lucas Johnson added some vital insurance in the fifth, launching a two-run double deep into left-center field. On the mound, starting pitcher Makaio Cisneros from Pensacola State College delivered a stellar performance, throwing five innings of two-run ball and racking up seven strikeouts to earn the victory.
With this impressive win, the Border Cats improve their season record to 14-10, moving to just 3.5 games back of Waterloo in the intense chase for the Great Plains East division first half crown.
The Border Cats will look to close out this series against the Bucks on tonight.
John McDonald from Creighton University is expected to get the start for Thunder Bay. And for the fans, Friday is “Flyaway Friday,” offering one lucky person two tickets to fly anywhere Porter Airlines travels.
