NIPIGON, ON – June 19, 2025 – A 78-year-old man from Brampton is facing serious charges after a dangerous driving incident at a construction zone west of Marathon led to swift police action.
At approximately 9:39 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report that a motorist failed to stop for a flagger directing traffic at an active construction site on Highway 17. The incident sparked concern for the safety of workers and drivers alike.
By 11:30 a.m., OPP located the vehicle on Highway 11-17 and initiated a traffic stop as part of their investigation. The motorist’s actions were determined to meet the threshold for stunt driving under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.
As a result:

The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days

The driver has been released and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon on August 11, 2025.
