Youth Arrested in Fort Hope for Assault with a Weapon Involving Thrown Rock

FORT HOPE, ON – REGIONAL CRIME REPORT – A 14-year-old youth has been arrested and charged after an alleged assault involving a thrown rock injured a band security member in the community of Fort Hope First Nation.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to the incident during the morning hours of Friday, June 20. Officers from the Fort Hope detachment were dispatched following reports that a rock had been thrown at a security officer while they were operating an ATV.

The incident occurred near the community arena. Upon arrival, officers located a male youth matching the description of the suspect and, following an investigation, took him into custody.

Police report that the victim—a member of Fort Hope’s band security team—was struck by the rock and required medical attention. They were transported to the community’s nursing station for treatment and evaluation of their injuries.

As a result of the investigation, the youth is facing the following charge:

  • Assault with a Weapon

The accused was brought before a bail hearing and has since been released with conditions pending a future court date. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth’s identity is not being released.
