Unusual Location for Arrest: Officers find suspect asleep in a vehicle at 1200 Balmoral Street

THUNDER BAY – A 38-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing impaired driving charges after officers found him unresponsive in a parked vehicle—at the Thunder Bay Police Station itself.

Shortly before 2:45 a.m. on Monday, June 30, Thunder Bay Police Service Primary Response officers noticed a suspicious vehicle occupying a reserved police parking space at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Upon investigation, officers discovered the man asleep in the driver’s seat. After initiating contact, they observed clear signs of impairment. The suspect was arrested on the spot and escorted inside the station.

The man refused to comply with further testing by a drug recognition expert, leading to additional charges.

He is now charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Refusing to Comply with a Demand. The accused was released on an undertaking with a court date pending. He also received an immediate 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

This arrest underscores the ongoing vigilance of local police in addressing impaired driving, even under the most unusual circumstances.
